When it’s late and Uber Eats is calling her name, Social Media Editor Urmi Pandit instead turns to this perfect crispy chilli beef recipe. It’s so close to a Chinese takeaway, you’ll hardly be able to tell the difference (though thankfully, your bank account will).

Urmi’s Beef Stir Fry from Dad

Ingredients
  

  • 250 grams steak
  • 100 grams cornflour
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 2 tbsp grated ginger
  • 1 egg
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tbsp soya sauce
  • 1 tbsp chinese five spice
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp catsup
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 3 tbsp tomato puree

Instructions
 

  • Mix together 1 tbsp soya, 5 spice, salt, and pepper. Marinade beef in mixture.
  • Stir together catsup, honey, vinegar, tomato puree and set aside for sauce.
  • Break up egg in a shallow dish. Dip steak into cornflour, egg, then cornflour again.
  • Fry in pan over medium heat until cooked to perfection.
  • Serve with sauce and vegetables or rice.
